Research summary
Traumatic brain injuries from traffic accidents, contact sports and falls affect millions of people around the world every year. Despite clinical advances, we still face important knowledge gaps when it comes to caring for survivors. As Canada Research Chair in Critical Care Neurology and Trauma, Dr. Alexis Turgeon is looking to fill these gaps.
He and his research team are conducting patient-oriented research on current interventions used in neurocritically ill trauma patients. They are also looking at brain resuscitation strategies and interventions to improve long-term outcomes in these patients. In addition, he and his team are developing and implementing tools to guide decision-making processes in bedside care. Ultimately, their goal is to change the way health-care workers care for critically ill patients with traumatic brain injuries and improve their outcomes.
