Tenth-year program evaluation

The Corporate, Performance and Evaluation Division of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council has mandated Science-Metrix to carry out the 10th-year evaluation of the Canada Research Chairs program, in preparation for the renewal of the program’s terms and conditions.

This will be the third evaluation of the program. Building on the findings from the previous two evaluations, the 10th-year evaluation is designed as a summative evaluation to assess whether the program continues to be relevant, the extent to which it has achieved its objectives, and its results and impacts.

The evaluation questions will be addressed through interviews with stakeholders, case studies examining factors of success at the research chairs level, web surveys of chairholders, and a bibliometric analysis of the scientific production of chairholders versus a comparable group.

The project will be conducted from June 2009 to May 2010. The key deliverables of the evaluation include elements such as:

Final Design Report November 2009
Data collection November 2009 to February 2010
First Draft Evaluation Report
(Presentation to the program’s Steering Committee)
April 2010
Final Evaluation Report May 2010

Please note that periodic updates relating to the progress of this evaluation will be provided.
