Research involves

Developing new ways to use polymers to eliminate environmental hazards associated with oilsands exploration.

Research relevance

This research could lead to the development of new ways to use polymers to reduce or eliminate tailings ponds from the oilsands.

Research summary

The focus of this research is to quantify how the properties of polymers are relatedto their molecular architectures using statistical methods. Canada and the rest of the

world has much to gain by understanding how to make better polymers, particularly

now when sustainability and environmental preservation are everyone?s concern.

Modern life without polymers is inconceivable: they are present everywhere. Thus,

the only solution is to design them for optimal performance, minimum cost, extended

recyclability, and efficient reuse. Prof. Soares’ research plan aims at meeting thesegoals and could revolutionize the way the industry designs polymers.
