Research summary

Some health challenges—like the COVID-19 pandemic—require cross-border cooperation to address effectively. To strengthen global health governance and prepare for future crises, researchers and other experts are always studying how to improve the way these types of events are managed.

As Canada Research Chair in Global Health Governance, Dr. Kelley Lee is leading a group focused on emerging pathogens and pandemics and providing advice on several global health initiatives. She and her research team are exploring ways to mitigate risks from private sector influences on population health (such as the production and marketing of products that can affect health). They are also developing risk-based approaches to managing borders during international public health emergencies. Ultimately, she and her team are contributing innovative thinking, scientific evidence and leadership to policy initiatives on pandemic preparedness and response in Canada and globally.
