Research summary
The practice of science raises many philosophical questions—and Dr. Christophe Malaterre, Canada Research Chair in the Philosophy of Life Sciences, is trying to answer some of them. Malaterre and his research team are studying the epistemology of the origins of life and astrobiology.
They are interested in the nature of life, the transition from inert to living, the natural processes that may explain this transition, and the approaches deployed by science to try to answer questions like these. At the same time, they are also developing approaches to algorithmic textual analysis that they hope to deploy in conceptual and historical analyses to understand the origins of life and related issues in the philosophy of life sciences.
