Research summary
Harnessing the elusive properties of quantum physics holds promise for a range of fields. It could support the optimization of transport networks, the discovery of new pharmaceuticals, or the early diagnosis of health conditions. As Canada Research Chair in Quantum Microwave Radiation, Dr. Bertrand Reulet is tapping into the power of quantum physics to generate electromagnetic waves with properties that go beyond those of classical physics.
He and his research team are focusing on generating quantum microwave electromagnetic fields by exploiting the quantum behaviour of electrons in conducting nanostructures at very low temperatures. In particular, they are exploring the random fluctuations of electrical current, the properties of which can be controlled by applying well-engineered, time-dependent voltages. By deepening our understanding of electron quantum statistics in circuits, their research will advance both basic quantum science and its application to quantum electronics.
