Research involves

Research relevance

This research will provide policy-makers, health care providers and the public with timely evidence on emerging health policies in Canada and internationally.

Research summary

Substance use policies in Canada have changed significantly in recent years, including the legalization of recreational cannabis and the relaxation of access to prescription opioids. These changes have attracted considerable attention and debate here and elsewhere, but research evidence on their effects is still limited.

As Canada Research Chair in Health Policy Evaluation and Health Care Sustainability, Dr. Hai Nguyen has been using the latest statistical techniques and high-quality data to uncover rigorous, timely evidence on the effects of these policies. Ultimately, he and his research team hope their research will have positive impacts worldwide.
