Research summary
Critical diseases alter the shape of organs. Neurodegeneration is one example. These subtle morphological changes are, however, difficult to detect due to a high geometrical variability of biological shapes. Shape analysis plays, therefore, a fundamental role in characterizing the subtlest geometrical variations of anatomy on a much finer level.
Dr. Hervé Lombaert, holder of the Chair on Shape Analysis in Medical Imaging, works with his team to improve the early detection of diseases by identifying new shape-based biomarkers through the geometric analysis of large numbers of medical images.
