Research summary

Although the exact percentage of Canadian men who are gay, bisexual, queer or transgender is unknown, what is clear is that they don’t always have access to or receive the sexual and mental health services they need. As Canada Research Chair in Sexual and Gender Minority Health, Dr. Daniel Grace is trying to change this.

By focusing on the lived experiences of gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men, he and his research team aim to improve the health of this overlooked minority population. He and his team are examining the rollout of biomedical HIV prevention strategies to shed light on their experiences with sexual decision-making and access to care. They are also conducting community-based research with health-care providers and sexual minority populations. This will help them to map the health-care landscape in order to identify access barriers and improve the implementation of new strategies to better meet this population’s sexual and mental health-care service needs.
