Research summary
Optoelectronics-devices generate, detect and manipulate light-are at the heart of the internet, display and lighting technologies, digital cameras, medical devices, solar energy conversion and other technologies. Scientists are exploring new roles for photonic devices for ultrasensitive measurement as well as secure quantum communication and quantum computing and simulation. But the cost and performance of these devices rely heavily on the properties of the underlying materials.
As Canada Research Chair in Light-Matter Photonics, Dr. Stéphane Kéna-Cohen is developing optical components made of molecular, 2D and hybrid semiconductors that offer unique functionality, can be made at low cost, and have the potential to be integrated into complex device architectures.
