Research Summary

Climate change, environmental degradation and social inequality are deeply interconnected forces that threaten human health and well-being, especially for marginalized communities. Addressing these challenges requires transformative solutions grounded in justice, sustainability and collaboration. As Canada Research Chair in Social-Ecological Health, Dr. Lindsay Galway is focusing on the emerging field of planetary health, which investigates how social and ecological systems interact to shape health and health inequities.

Her interdisciplinary, community-engaged program focuses on understanding the health impacts of climate and environmental change and developing place-based responses that promote resilience and equity. She and her research team are prioritizing the perspectives of marginalized groups and fostering intersectoral partnerships to create solutions that generate shared benefits across communities and sectors. This research aims to protect health and well-being during the Anthropocene—an era defined by humanity’s profound influence on Earth’s systems.
