Research summary
Studies show that children who score poorly on school readiness at an early age are less likely to succeed in high school and more apt to experience poor health and low pay as adults.
As Canada Research Chair in School Readiness, Inclusion of Vulnerable Populations, and Social Adjustment, Dr. Gabrielle Garon-Carrier is trying to identify practices that will improve the school readiness of vulnerable children. She and her research team are trying to better understand how children’s social and school environments affect their readiness for school, and how the right services can help them adjust to formal schooling. They are also looking at the effects of inclusive classrooms on these children’s well-being, achievements and behaviours.
