Research summary
Low literacy levels have negative academic, social and economic repercussions for individuals, families and societies. As Canada Research Chair in Language and Literacy Education, Dr. Kimberly Lenters is looking for ways to ensure all children achieve the levels of literacy they will need for their long-term success.
Lenters and her research team are examining approaches to teaching literacy that are innovative and informed by concepts such as collaboration, emergence and possibility. She and her team are also cultivating new approaches to children’s literacy learning experiences and uncovering ways to support educators as they adopt these approaches in the classroom. They are also examining the opportunities and limitations of these methods for students and addressing stakeholders’ concerns.
