Research Summary

Originating in the last century in both Anglo-Saxon countries and continental Europe, the “medical humanities” have since expanded into a broader field. Today, they form a wide-ranging area of education and research that provides a forum for reflecting on biological knowledge and its history, epistemology, and cultural, social, political and economic impacts.

Dr. Pierre-Olivier Méthot, Canada Research Chair in Medical Humanities and History of Biological Thought, aims to respond to the societal challenges raised by transformations and developments in medicine and contemporary life sciences. He and his research team hope to develop a new vision of medical humanities and propose critical ideas about contemporary theories and practices in the life and health sciences. Their work could leave an important mark on publications in the fields of philosophy and the history of biomedical sciences.
