Research Summary

Three-dimensional (3D) models are used in film, gaming, architecture, engineering and many other fields to help people visualize items in multiple dimensions. As Canada Research Chair in Computer Graphics, Dr. Manolis Savva is working to better understand and predict how humans and artificial intelligence (AI) systems will interact with 3D objects.

He and his research team are developing algorithms that advance the creation of interactive 3D scenes with which people can engage and from which AI assistants can be built. Their research bridges multiple disciplines, including computer graphics, computer vision, robotics and AI. Ultimately, the algorithms that Savva and his team create will generate human-centric 3D environments that support architectural visualization, virtual and augmented reality, ergonomics analysis, 3D scene understanding, and AI research.
