Research summary
Lung diseases are associated with significant morbidity, mortality and cost in Canada. To address these issues, Dr. Sarah Svenningsen, Canada Research Chair in Translational Pulmonary Imaging, is developing and applying non-invasive pulmonary (lung) imaging measurements that are highly sensitive to changes caused by diseases in the airways and lung parenchyma (alveoli, alveolar ducts and respiratory bronchioles).
Svenningsen’s aims are to detect and understand the early manifestation of pulmonary diseases; to predict and evaluate pulmonary disease outcomes; and to improve the selection, delivery and efficacy of therapies that target pulmonary diseases. She and her research team hope to make discoveries that will generate a significant impact on Canadians by reducing the clinical and economic burden of pulmonary diseases.
