Research Summary
Millions of Canadians live with lung diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lung cancer—conditions that cause suffering and strain the health-care system. As Canada Research Chair in Translational Pulmonary Imaging, Dr. Sarah Svenningsen is using advanced imaging technologies to better detect, understand and treat these diseases.
She and her research team are leveraging state-of-the-art CT and MRI tools to visualize both lung structure and function. Working with a team of clinicians, scientists and imaging experts, they are developing methods to predict disease progression, personalize treatments, and improve health outcomes for people with both common and rare lung conditions. By integrating imaging with clinical data, biology and genomics, Svenningsen’s research is paving the way for more accurate diagnoses, better therapies, and improved quality of life for Canadians with lung diseases.
