Research summary

Three-quarters of all mental health disorders are diagnosed in childhood-and their ripple effects can lead to challenges throughout a person’s lifespan. The term "mental health crisis" has increasingly been used by researchers, practitioners and policy-makers around the world to highlight the urgent need to support the mental health of children and youth. As Canada Research Chair in Child and Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing, Dr. Maria Rogers aims to help make this happen.

To do this, she is studying two of the most meaningful domains of child development: mental health and education. By advancing our understanding of the mental health and educational needs of Canada’s youth, she and her research team aim to fundamentally change the trajectories of our most vulnerable citizens.
