Research summary

Because of advances in medical imaging, radiology is now used in a range of medical conditions. But the complexity of the resulting images means that to use them for diagnosing and assessing patients and evaluating treatments, physicians need better tools to interpret them. As Canada Research Chair in Artificial Intelligence for Health, Dr. Carlos Hernandez Castillo aims to make this happen.

Hernandez Castillo and his research team are developing new statistical and artificial intelligence techniques to identify patterns in medical image data. The goal is for these software tools to help physicians better understand motor impairment and recognize tumours, and to shed light on the cognitive effects of brain damage.
