Research summary

The United Nations adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015 as a universal call to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that by 2030, people everywhere have peace and prosperity. Dr. Tracy Smith-Carrier, Canada Research Chair in Advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals, is trying to advance the SDGs by furthering our understanding of how their targets and indicators are designed and implemented, and by assessing their outcomes and impacts.

She and her research team are using community-based, participatory action research to generate knowledge about the SDGs locally, nationally and globally. Their local research is exploring the SDGs’ relevancy and implementation at the community level, while their national and global research is identifying and promoting policy solutions that have the potential to realize the SDGs in diverse regions and states.
