Research summary

The overall objective of the Canada Research Chair in Gastrointestinal Stem Cell Biology will be to establish new strategies to regulate stem cell function to develop effective treatments against inflammation and cancer. Inflammation often occurs in patients following injury (e.g., infection or radiation) and stem cells are key regulators of tissue regeneration to assure adequate wound repair. In cancer, stem cells are thought to be at the origin of cancer development and to contribute to the establishment of treatment resistance. Therefore, the development of new therapies targeting stem cells would significantly improve the current standard of care.
