Research summary

In the 20th century business world, capital-intensive companies—those that require large amounts of investments and fixed assets to produce goods or services—drove economies. But the fourth and fifth industrial revolutions are more about creating value from idea-based solutions. Today’s corporations are focused on research, development and innovation, with intellectual property being a significant asset.

Dr. Anup Srivastava, Canada Research Chair in Accounting, Decision-Making and Capital Markets, aims to address the problems and opportunities arising from the ongoing fourth and fifth industrial revolutions. In particular, he and his research team are focusing on the accounting, financial reporting and valuation issues of modern corporations, which increasingly face the danger of becoming irrelevant. The team’s overarching goal is to guide directors, managers, bankers, policy-makers and investors to make better decisions and to distribute social benefits more equitably in today’s rapidly changing corporate world.
