Research summary

In the 20th century business world, capital-intensive companies—those that require large amounts of investments and fixed assets to produce goods or services—drove the economy. But today’s economy is driven by knowledge-intensive companies. These businesses focus on research, development and innovation, with intellectual property being a significant asset.

Dr. Anup Srivastava, Canada Research Chair in Accounting, Decision-Making and Capital Markets, is conducting research to help build highly competitive and resilient companies that can succeed in this environment. He and his research team are focusing on the evolving roles of boards of directors, incentive plans for top executives, financial accounting and auditing practices, and human capital. They hope to provide insights that will guide directors, managers, regulators, accountants, policy-makers and investors who are adjusting their practices to fit the knowledge-intensive companies that now dominate the business world.
