Research summary

Cities face increasing congestion and pollution along with reduced travel efficiency. To achieve sustainable development, we need to develop new strategies that involve more aggressive use of active and alternative modes of transportation. Dr. Catherine Morency, Canada Research Chair in Human Mobility, aims to contribute to an integrated and multimodal understanding of human mobility.

Morency and her research team are developing models that simulate different transportation scenarios and assess their impacts on sustainable development. They plan to shed light on the factors that dictate the evolution of different activity systems, including in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the resulting uses of different transportation and mobility systems. Ultimately, their work will contribute to changing people’s mobility practices for the better and improving the overall quality of life in cities.
