Research summary

The need for better, faster diagnoses of various illnesses has increased the possibilities for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in hospitals. As Canada Research Chair in Artificial Intelligence for Medicine, Dr. Bo Wang’s goal is to tap into the power of interpretable AI to improve patient care.

To do this, he and his research team are developing several key AI frameworks. First, they are creating a fast, scalable and interpretable framework that integrates single-cell multi-omics data. They are also designing a privacy-preserving framework that securely learns single-cell genomics data from multiple health institutions without the need for data transfer. Lastly, they are working on an integrative AI framework that combines single-cell multi-omics data with patient-level clinical measurements. Ultimately, their work will pave the way to profiling big data in single-cell genomics and clinical studies and support the move toward personalized patient care.
