Research summary
The building sector has a critical role to play in the transition toward low-carbon, resilient, healthy urban communities. However, it is becoming increasingly complex to model and understand building performance because of changes to the urban fabric, evolving energy sources and loads, and unpredictable climate conditions. Research on building performance has often been limited, hindering the development of holistic solutions at building and urban scales.
Dr. Elie Azar, Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Buildings and Communities, is developing data-driven methods to capture the multidisciplinary mechanisms that affect building performance. He and his research team are also proposing and testing integrated sustainable building solutions, with the ultimate goal of creating tools to guide urban policy.
