Attempts to innovate and improve universal health-care systems often seem to achieve lacklustre results despite significant financial investments. Canada’s health-care systems are among the most vulnerable in the world due to such stagnation. Although advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) have been viewed as promising approaches for transforming these health-care systems, lasting solutions have been in critically short supply.
As Canada Research Chair in Data Analytics for Health Systems Transformation, Dr. Christopher Sun aims to improve the efficiency of Canada’s health-care systems, reduce inequity, and overcome public mistrust. He and his research team plan to achieve these objectives by overcoming the barriers to developing and implementing new AI-based solutions and following the principles of knowledge translation. Ultimately, their work could inform much-needed transformations of health-care systems in Canada.
