Research summary

Despite significant advances over the past few decades, communicable diseases like tuberculosis, influenza, COVID-19 and others continue to cause sickness and death around the world—and their impact is most severe in areas with fewer resources. As Canada Research Chair in Communicable Diseases Epidemiology, Dr. Giorgia Sulis aims to improve health in the most vulnerable populations while also addressing major infectious threats, such as antimicrobial resistance and tuberculosis.

By applying a range of methods and approaches—from knowledge synthesis to observational studies, impact evaluations, and interventional designs—she and her research team are generating new evidence that will have direct implications for decisions about communicable diseases made by both physicians and policy-makers. Their work will lead to better health outcomes, particularly among vulnerable populations.
