Research summary
As climate change and the widespread impacts of colonization continue to fuel food insecurity in Canada’s North, communities are finding innovative ways to adapt and transform their food systems. Dr. Andrew Spring, Canada Research Chair in Northern Sustainable Food Systems, is conducting community-based research to support sustainable food system initiatives in the North.
He and his research team are including issues of land stewardship and sovereignty in their work. Their explorations will allow for the ongoing support of innovative food system programs in Indigenous communities in Canada. Their research will also build capacity and stronger networks to foster knowledge-sharing, greater collaboration and dialogue to ensure people living in northern communities have access to healthy food.
