Research summary

Economic downturns, health crises, racial conflicts, and recurring heat waves and floods have made the general well-being of people who live in cities more uncertain. The interconnectedness of these crises has also forced us to reconsider our traditional siloed approaches to problem-solving. But urban wellness offers a holistic perspective on how to deal with compound urban crises and improve urban dwellers’ lives.

Dr. Marielle Papin, Canada Research Chair in Urban Wellness—Urban Governance and Policy, is developing a better understanding of the governance of urban wellness and looking for ways to strengthen it. She and her research team are paying particular attention to urban policies’ synergies and conflicts. Their interest in interdisciplinarity and community-based research will create innovative opportunities to support urban wellness.
