Research summary
One of the main obstacles to the study of brain disease is the availability of neuronal tissue. Dr. François Gros-Louis, Canada Research Chair in Tissue Engineering and 3D Modelling of Brain Disease, is interested in tackling this problem.
Gros-Louis and his research team are using tissue engineering to design biological tissue derived from patient cells for experimental and clinical purposes. The histological, physiological and function properties of this tissue will help the team reproduce the pathological signatures of various brain diseases. By studying these novel, personalized cell models, the research team can learn more about these diseases and spur additional research. Eventually, their work will lead to a better understanding of what causes these diseases and may uncover new drug targets.
