Dr. Nancy Côté, Canada Research Chair in the Sociology of Work and in Health Organizations, is trying to understand how work environments and social contexts shape patterns of work engagement in health-care organizations. Côté and her research team are focusing on organizations, occupations and individuals. Drawing on the sociology of work, they are proposing an innovative approach that conceptualizes commitment to work as a dynamic process situated within a particular social and organizational context. Their work will contribute to a broader yet more detailed understanding of workforce issues in health systems and organizations in Canada and OECD countries.
