Research summary

Most people know they should have a household budget. But do all households benefit from using financial products and services? And when is the best time to invest in or make use of these products and services? As Canada Research Chair in Household Finance, Dr. Claire Célérier aims to answer these questions.

She and her research team are examining how financial institutions cater to households in order to create demand for financial products and services, and what this means for household wealth. They are also investigating how financial institutions can design securities to better accommodate household preferences while still innovating to address long-term uncertainties, such as climate change. In addition, she and her team are exploring whether the services that financial institutions have offered in the past tended to benefit or harm households. They also plan to assess the resulting regulatory implications of this knowledge.
