Research summary

Unprecedented declines in biodiversity are threatening our ecosystem services and the well-being of people around the globe. As Canada Research Chair in Global Change Ecology, Dr. Rassim Khelifa aims to deepen our understanding of what is driving these biodiversity changes.

Khelifa’s previous research highlighted the importance of environmental changes over time in transforming biodiversity around the world. Now, he and his research team are studying the complex interactions between environmental fluctuations and multiple stressors to determine how they affect the way species and communities respond to climate change and other human-caused stressors. Ultimately, Khelifa’s research will fill important knowledge gaps and support efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change and other anthropogenic stressors.
