Research summary
Storytelling has long been important in Asian diasporic communities, but these narratives are underrepresented in Canadian digital archives, online storytelling projects, and other technology-based humanities research. As Canada Research Chair in Diasporic Digital Humanities, Dr. Immony Mèn is trying to change this.
Mèn and his research team are collaborating with scholars, artists, researchers and community organizers who identify as Black, Indigenous or people of colour in the arts and arts education in Canada. Their aim is to develop new ethical models for research creation and humanities-based scholarship around diasporic narratives, cultural expression, network formation, and knowledge-sharing. By exploring the diverse relationships, aesthetics and discourses within Canadian media art and arts education, Mèn’s research will contribute to more inclusive, representative cultural frameworks.
