Research summary
Person-centred care involves treating people who face health issues as valued partners in their own care. It is also about creating greater accessibility in care systems to reflect the values and knowledges of the people who use them. This approach improves people’s ability to access the services they need. But to achieve person-centred care systems, we need research that is conducted in ways that support the priorities and participation of the people the research is meant to benefit.
As Canada Research Chair in Accessibility and Person-Centred Care, Dr. Janet Jull is conducting this type of research. Her aim is to advance person-centred care through innovative, collaborative research practices. To do this, she and her research team are developing strategies to help people co-produce shared decision-making tools and approaches that will support person-centred care. Their research will deliver the knowledge needed to spark societal change and achieve optimal health and wellness for all.
