Research summary
Gaps between research and real-world practice mean that many health care innovations never reach the people who need them most. Dissemination and implementation science (DIS) helps bridge this divide by ensuring that evidence-based innovations are effectively integrated into health care and other settings.
As Canada Research Chair in Implementation Science and Practice, Dr. Melanie Barwick is making DIS evidence more accessible and easier to apply while also strengthening implementation frameworks across different contexts. By improving the way research is translated into practice, she and her research team are building capacity, reducing research waste, and enhancing health and social outcomes. Stronger DIS can help Canadians benefit more quickly and consistently from innovations, leading to better health care, education and social services nationwide.
