Research summary
The concept of Indigenous resurgence involves regenerating Indigenous ways of being and doing, particularly in the context of health. It is deeply rooted in Indigenous Knowledge systems and research methodologies. As Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Health Resurgence, Dr. Tricia McGuire-Adams aims to support Indigenous Peoples’ health and well-being by centring Indigenous Knowledges and lifeways.
McGuire-Adams is creating a national collaborative study of First Nations disability, focusing on collecting data about disability and sport. She and her research team are working with Anishinaabek Knowledge Holders to build a shared understanding of treaties and their role in equity, diversity, inclusion, and access initiatives. They are also amplifying the experiences of Indigenous and racialized women in physical activity. Ultimately, their work will regenerate Anishinaabek-gikendaasowin (knowledge) in academic settings and communities.
