Research summary

Sequential decision-making under uncertainty poses challenges in fields such as artificial intelligence, control theory and statistics. Advances in this area are poised to transform how organizations approach complex decisions in uncertain environments across sectors, including telecommunications, supply chains and health care. As Canada Research Chair in Sequential Decision-Making Under Uncertainty, Dr. Maryam Daryalal’s aim is to advance this field.

She and her research team are developing new solutions for largely unexplored classes of multistage stochastic optimization (decision problems that involve uncertainty and longer planning horizons). Their goal is to design innovative decision rules and enhance algorithm scalability and performance. Their research will advance the theory and practice of organizational decision-making under uncertainty and promote more robust, efficient processes across industries.
