Research summary
Indigenous peoples in Canada continue to experience health disparities rooted in colonialism, systemic racism and structural inequities. As Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Health Governance, Dr. Krista Stelkia is advancing Indigenous-led health solutions by generating evidence on structural determinants of health, co-creating community-driven interventions, and promoting self-determination in health governance.
She and her research team are leading the Centre for Collaborative Action on Indigenous Health Governance, a new national and international hub for culturally safe, community-engaged research and knowledge exchange. By supporting Indigenous researchers and communities and fostering global dialogue, their work will strengthen Indigenous health governance and support meaningful, lasting change. It will also contribute to new national guidelines for Indigenous health research ethics and help ensure healthier futures for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Canada.
