Research summary

The dictates of our ever-changing planet lead us to rethink the usefulness of ecosystems—but even more importantly, to gain a better understanding of conservation and biodiversity strategies while ensuring strong economic and social development for local communities.

As Canada Research Chair in Development and Territorial Issues in Contemporary Acadia, Dr. Rose Kikpa Bio is taking an empirical, collaborative approach to analyzing contemporary territorial dynamics in Acadia and examining new forms of engagement by local actors in their interactions with territorial resources. Kikpa Bio and her team are shining a light on the socio-ecological challenges facing minority Francophone communities, with a focus on three specific areas: land development, environmental governance and sustainable tourism. Their work will offer academic and practical tools to better integrate territorial dynamics into development decision-making, ultimately making Acadian territories more resilient to the challenges of today.
