Research summary

Creative practices play a vital role in shaping the cultural shifts and imaginative thinking needed to respond to climate change and other human-driven ecological crises. As Canada Research Chair in Sustainability, Ecological Justice, and Climate Action in Creative Practices, Dr. Amanda White is establishing the Studio for Environmentally Engaged Creative Research and Practice.

She and her research team are exploring how art and research creation can inspire sustainability, advance ecological justice, and promote climate action. Their projects will include material experimentation with plants, collaborative initiatives focused on food justice, and creative public engagement through artworks, exhibitions, podcasts and publications. By connecting artistic, scientific and community perspectives, White and her team are redefining how we understand and respond to environmental issues. Their research will engage diverse audiences, foster new partnerships, and highlight the transformative role that arts-based methods can play in building a more just and sustainable future.
