Research involves

Discovering and studying catalytic reactions vital for energy storage and usage.

Research relevance

This research will lead to the increased use of catalysis in the development of cleaner energy.

Generating new sources of fuels

Canada Research Chair in the Mechanisms of Homogeneous Catalytic Reactions, Dr. Warren Piers’ research aims to discover and study catalytic reactions vital for energy production. Significant advances in catalysis science are required to develop the alternative energy schemes needed to free us from our dependence on fossil fuels. This is particularly important given the rising threat from climate change.

Piers’ research program aims to developing robust, sustainable catalysts for generating fuels from the end products of combustion. The research also focuses on using earth-abundant transition metals, rather than rare and toxic metals, as catalysts for sustainable renewable energy production.
