Research summary

Canadians drink more than 1 billion glasses of wine produced in Canada each year. As our climate continues to change, Canadian wineries can benefit from more information about how grapes respond to various climates and how strategies like canopy management and water-saving irrigation can increase sustainability.

Dr. Simone Castellarin, Canada Research Chair in Viticulture, is studying these approaches to improve the sustainability of grape production now and in the future. He and his research team are researching the cultivation and harvesting of grapes to advance our knowledge of grape physiology and winegrowing. Ultimately, they hope their findings will support the Canadian grape and wine industry.
