Research summary

A sustainable food system is one that delivers food security and nutrition for everyone in a way that does not compromise the ability of future generations to do the same. Dr. Charles Levkoe, Canada Research Chair in Equitable and Sustainable Food Systems, is working with researchers and community-based practitioners to find ways to build sustainable food systems that are socially just, ecologically regenerative and support regional economies.

Levkoe and his research team are working with diverse communities to understand the opportunities and challenges within current food systems and how alternative systems might transform social and ecological relationships. Their work will inform social theory, civic engagement, governance and public policy while building more sustainable futures for everyone.
