Research summary

Media headlines let us know when there is a famine, conflict, disaster, epidemic or other event leading to a significant death toll somewhere in the world. This is important information, but it can be misrepresented for political purposes. As Canada Research Chair in Population and Global Health, Dr. Ties Boerma aims to reduce the incidence of misinterpretation by contributing to our knowledge and understanding of debates about these events.

At the same time, he and his research team are working to improve how the world’s progress toward universal health coverage is understood and monitored in the context of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Ultimately, Boerma and his team aim to enhance population health globally by advancing scientific approaches, generating broader comprehension of critical population issues, and contributing to global health policy and public awareness efforts.
