Research summary

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease that is treated with lifelong insulin replacement therapy. But most patients do not achieve their glucose targets, so they are at risk of long-term complications.

Dr. Ahmad Haidar, Canada Research Chair in Artificial Pancreas Systems, is studying the artificial pancreas, a new technology that makes insulin delivery automatic and improves glucose control. He and his research team are developing next-generation, multi-hormonal, artificial pancreas systems that combine new drugs with advanced dosing algorithms to improve patients’ quality of life and long-term health outcomes by better controlling their glucose levels.
