Research summary

Ecosystem services are the benefits that people receive from nature, such as food and water, shelter from the elements, or emotional rewards. Dr. Elena M. Bennett, Canada Research Chair in Sustainability Science, is exploring how these systems can be better understood as the products of dynamic systems, how to design models with more predictive capacity to reflect this, and what dynamic ecosystem service models can tell us about planning for sustainability.

Bennett and her research team hope to improve how we manage Canada’s working landscapes to ensure sustainability by developing both theoretical and empirical knowledge about ecosystem services interactions over time and through space.
