Research summary

One in 10 women of childbearing age has a disability. The World Health Organization has called for better reproductive health care for women with disabilities, yet these women are still not getting the care they need. As Canada Research Chair in Disability and Reproductive Health, Dr. Hilary Brown is trying to change that.

Brown and her research team are using data from Ontario’s medical and social services records to understand disparities in sexual health, healthy pregnancies and healthy children in women with and without disabilities. They are also developing and testing a new preconception health intervention for women with disabilities. Ultimately, this research will identify areas for clinical action and innovative solutions for improving the reproductive health of women with disabilities.
