Research summary

Forty per cent of Canadians will develop cancer during their lifetimes—and many who survive it will experience lifelong physical and emotional side effects. As Canada Research Chair in Patient and Family-Centred Cancer Survivorship, Dr. Colleen Cuthbert is investigating the physical and psychological impacts of cancer diagnosis on patients and their families as well as health outcomes.

In particular, Cuthbert aims to increase our knowledge of cancer survivorship. She and her research team are examining how cancer type affects not only patients’ needs, but their physical and psychological outcomes. Cuthbert’s team is also investigating what kinds of care can address those needs and improve outcomes, and what models of care work best in our current health care environment. This research will ultimately lead to better and more comprehensive cancer care for Canadians.
