Research summary

To support ultra-fast, ultra-reliable and low-latency connectivity for 5G vertical industries, we need to develop next-generation, autonomous and self-optimizing wireless networks. These will assist the smart grid and industries such as autonomous vehicles, healthcare and the industrial Internet of Things. Dr. Melike Erol Kantarci, Canada Research Chair in Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Enabled Next-Generation Wireless Networks, is working to help create these networks.

Erol Kantarci and her research team are developing innovative AI-based resource allocation, interference and mobility management solutions, and edge computing techniques that will weave machine learning into the network fabric in an unprecedented way, providing breakthrough performance for wireless networks to strengthen Canada’s role in telecommunications. They will also help train highly qualified personnel in state-of-the-art methods and tools so they are equipped to lead tomorrow’s telecommunications industry.
