Research summary

In this time of major environmental upheaval, the effects of climate change and dwindling biodiversity are significant global concerns. Dr. Jérôme Dupras, Canada Research Chair in Ecological Economics, is seeking to understand and measure the contribution of biodiversity and ecosystems to human well-being through the concept of ecosystem services.

Dupras and his research team will draw on socio-ecological modelling, economic theory and environmental governance to analyze agricultural, forest and urban areas. Their work, viewed through the lens of sustainable development, will help develop frameworks and tools that promote an economy that respects the biosphere’s conditions and capacities.
